Calling All Under 16 Players - National Citizen Service
The National Citizen Service (NCS) is an exciting youth programme running over the summer holidays. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 and 17 year olds to build skills and confidence which can help your child get ahead in future life. Across the country over 120,000 young people have already taken part.
What is NCS?
There are four parts to the programme:
Part 1: Get Active Five days (four nights), staying away from home in the countryside participating in outdoor adventure activities
Part 2: Get Involved Five days (four nights) away from home, developing independence skills
Part 3: Make Your Mark Five days developing personal skills, staying at home at night
Part 4: Community Action Five days delivering a project for the local community
Why Do NCS?
There have been a number of independent studies on the NCS programme since its launch in 2013. These studies have shown:
- The programme will support your child to develop their confidence in communication, leadership and team working skills.
- The programme will equip your child with the skills needed to flourish in later life, with significant impacts on levels of resilience, wellbeing and anxiety
- Teachers feel that young people who try something new during the summer holidays return to school with a more positive and focused attitude
Is there a cost?
Even though the value of each place is over £1000, thanks to government backing NCS costs you no more than £50.
That cost covers all accommodation, food and transport during the residential parts, as well as activities and equipment throughout NCS. If you need extra help with the cost you can ask for financial assistance when applying – we never want the cost to be a barrier to taking part.
