Sheffield Childrens Hospital and Charity.
Just want to share this with you all.
Last night I had the pleasure of representing the league in which we was invited to the Christmas Lights big switch on at the Sheffield's Children's Hospital.
I was greeted on arrival along with other sponsors with Hot Chocolate and mince pies.
After a short while we were directed to one of the lecture rooms to have a chat with the organisers.
The Sheffield Children's hospital was built in the 1800s and over the years has had buildings built onto it making it what it is today.
The time has come that the Hospital needs updating to the very best standards of today, the present.
Major work has now started on the hospital with plans including a new outpatients dept and 40+ state of the art single private bedrooms for children with en-suite facilities in every bedroom.
Basically half of the hospital is being rebuilt from scratch, but this also comes with disruptions like closing down the main entrance and closing major roads around the hospital, as at present all you see is big holes, cranes and builders around the site.
The completion date is set for spring 2016 or thereabouts.
Concluding the discussions on the development site we were then shown clips, slides and the plans for the new Hospital and then shown where it all began back in the day.
We were then escorted outside, crossed the road and the countdown began.
The organisers had done a fantastic job with all the lights on the hospital and what was amazing was the location of the magic button to switch all the light on.. Buried inside little Theo the bear, one press on his chest and WOW.
The total raised so far for the children's hospital Charity is around 54k from all the present sponsors and part of this is thanks to you, the £1 from each child upon League registration has contributed to this great charity, either by helping towards this project or just in general care.
Here is a short video that was shown last night.
