FA Club Mentor Programme Under Way At Stocksbridge Park Steels
Stocksbridge Park Steels embarked on a new FA Club Mentor Programme this week with allocated FA Mentor John Williams.
The Programme has been developed by The FA and is co-ordinated by County Football Associations to provide dedicated support to help develop coaches at grassroots clubs.
John Williams, who is also an FA Tutor as well as an academy coach at Sheffield Wednesday, will be on-hand to provide Stocksbridge Park Steels coaches quality targeted support that challenges and enhances coaching standards at the successful grassroots club.
Junior coaches turned up in their numbers on a cold, wet and windy October night in Stocksbridge to take part in their first practical session of the programme. This is a unique opportunity to gain support from a professional coach to help develop the volunteer coaches within the Club.
Ian Cavanagh Junior Chair of Park Steels enthused, "This is a great initiative by the FA and the club to help improve the quality of coaching at grassroots level. From our perspective the aim ultimately is to improve the experience and development of young players at Stocksbridge."
Stocksbridge Park Steels junior players have an aspirational role model in former junior player, Jamie Vardy. Vardy now plays for Leicester City has recently made his Premiership debut, but still finds time to occasionally pop back to Look Local Stadium to watch the first team.
Stocksbridge Park Steels are a FA standard Community Club with over 300 players ranging from four year-old to senior first XI.
