Award for the League
Before today's FA Community Shield fixture at Wembley, the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League were announced as “Highly Commended” in the National League of the Year category of the FA’s Community Awards in association with McDonald’s.
Welfare Officers, Denise Hicks and Lisa Glaves, along with under 13 registrar Sam Glaves attended the FA National award presentation on behalf of the League. Also present in the stadium were Mitch Dennision (U7 & U8 registrar), Chirs Dennison (U9 registrar) and Lee Morris (Respect Secretary).
The League were winners of League of the Year in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA category , and then went forward to the regional awards (North East & Yorkshire) and took that honour as well. That enabled the League to make it to the final shortlisting for the national honour.
The panel for the national recognition including Sir Trevor Brooking and 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst.
League Secretary, Nathan Batchelor said: "This award is a great honour for all clubs, teams, managers, coaches, parents, referees, volunteers, players and league officials who create football opportunities for over twelve thousand young people in the area to play football in a safe, enjoyable and developmental environmental"
