Football Packed weekend at Off the Shelf Festival
This year’s Off the Shelf Festival has some unmissable sporting events on offer. First up, on Monday 13 October we have A Runner’s Journey with Richard Askwith. Tired of the commercialisation of running, Richard is now getting back to the basics of why we love to run in his new book Running Free, which offers tips to on how to start running as well as reminding those who do how to run for the sheer joy of it. Richard’s cult book about fell-running Feet in the Clouds was William Hill Sports book of the Year.
If the beautiful game is more your thing we have a football packed weekend starting with an event on Saturday 25 October with Dan Walker from BBC1’s Football focus show and the afternoon show on Radio 5 Live. Dan’s book, his Football Thronkersaurus , shares his hilarious stories of the great and not so great moments in footballing history. Following this on Sunday 26 October we have The Football Cronicas with Jethro Soutar, showcasing fifteen pieces of short-form writing that take football as their starting point, including the story of a prison team in Argentina and a kidnapped team in Bolivia.
These are just a few of our events, there are more than 240 events taking place throughout October and November including authors, local history talks, music guests, cookery and politics.
