Birds of a Feather Flock Together – Hoyland Common Falcons & Hoyland Town Magpies
The League has received this press release from Hoyland Common Falcons:
"Birds of a Feather Flock Together – Hoyland Common Falcons & Hoyland Town Magpies
We recently played a match against Hoyland Town Magpies, which both teams always enjoy, due to our friendly rivalry. One of my son’s friends is a goalkeeper with Hoyland Town Magpies and loves nothing more than training, playing every week.
Whilst talking with his mum, she explained that her son suffers from poor eyesight and has to wear his glasses when playing and training. Unfortunately, wearing normal glasses and playing football is not a good mix, especially when playing as a goalkeeper.
Ideally, from a safeguarding point of view I’m aware children should wear safety glasses/goggles fitted withPolycarbonate Lenses, which won’t shatter on impact.
Although the frames are cheap to buy, the lenses are not. A typical pair would cost around £100. At the moment, his eyes have to be tested every 12 months with a possible change of prescription lenses needed. Obviously, this is quite an additional cost on top of his normal football fees.
Thanks to funding opportunities mentioned on the Sheffield & District Junior Football League Website, I was able to secure a small grant of £100, which will be used to purchase much-needed safety glasses/goggles.
I’d just like to say a big thank you to the Sheffield & District Junior Football League (via their website) for constantly keeping their members informed regarding funding opportunities, and also to the local trust fund whose generously will enable a young man to continue playing football without the worry for his parents.
